Big cities and landmarks in cursive
Handwriting practice and a geography lesson in one. This worksheet has twelve city and landmark names, each with a capital letter, in standard school cursive to trace and copy. Proper nouns are good practice: every one starts with a capital, and names like Rio de Janeiro mix capitals and lowercase in one line.
The names on the worksheet
New York · largest city in the United States
London · capital of the United Kingdom
Tokyo · capital of Japan
Paris · capital of France
Sydney · largest city in Australia
Rio de Janeiro · Brazil
Cairo · capital of Egypt
Mumbai · largest city in India
Eiffel Tower · Paris, France
Great Wall of China · over 13,000 miles long
Statue of Liberty · New York Harbor
Big Ben · London, England
Why themed cursive practice works
Rows of identical letters get boring fast. Writing the name of a real place gives the child something to think about, and proper nouns bring in capital letters and unusual joins (the "yo" in Tokyo, the "ff" in Eiffel) that plain word lists skip.
Finish each session by finding the city on a map. The name will stick, and so will the handwriting.
